La Cañada Flintridge, CA – January 18, 2021—2020 may have been a crazy, upside down year, but nature continues to thrive through it all. Starting in February, 2021, Descanso Gardens will celebrate all nature has to offer in the late winter/early spring with LA Blooms, taking a closer look at the flowers, plants and wildlife that call Descanso home during the season of renewal.
February: Descanso will celebrate the queen of the winter flowers, the camellia, throughout February. Prized for their exquisite blooms, camellias are not only beautiful but have a wonderful story to tell. They will be highlighted all month with special installations that showcase their delicate beauty.
March: March will be all about the blooms! Not only will the cherry blossoms be in full regalia late February/early March, but the more than 30,000 tulip bulbs that are planted each year in the Promenade area will be producing a breathtaking assortment of tulips in different colors and varieties. The theme for March will also be Birds & Nests. Art displays throughout the Gardens and in the Center Circle will celebrate both.
“Visitors had to miss all of this spring splendor when the pandemic shut the Gardens down last March,” said Juliann Rooke, Executive Director, Descanso Gardens “but this year we’re thrilled that guests will be able to enjoy an explosion of color and beauty when our plants put on their annual show. We’re so excited to be celebrating the season together this coming year, gathering inspiration and strength from nature as we go into what will surely be a better year.”
In addition, March 26-28, 2021 will see the return of the ever-popular Tomatomania! The format may be a little different than Tomatomaniacs are used to, due to Covid, but event organizers assure audiences that it will be chock full of tomato and pepper seedlings as usual, in a socially-distanced environment.
Descanso Gardens hours are 9am-5pm daily. Advance ticketing is required and tickets can be purchased at descansogardens.org.
