CARLSBAD, CA (April 29, 2020) – There aren’t enough words to say “thank you” to all of the essential workers on the frontline during this difficult time, but there are 640 LEGO® bricks a Master Model Builder at LEGOLAND® California Resort, used to build such a message of gratitude. The white mosaic with black script and a yellow ribbon, all created out of LEGO, was built by Model Builder Tim Sams and spans more than three-feet long and is nearly two-feet tall. Attractions of Merlin Entertainments, including LEGOLAND Resorts and LEGOLAND Discovery Centers across the globe, are sharing their messages of hope and gratitude hopefully bringing some smiles and fun to families until we can open attractions once again. A variety of content, along with the thank you LEGO mosaic, can be found on a dedicated YouTube and Facebook page for “Making Magic With Merlin.”

The Family Theme Park Creates a LEGO® Version of the Famous Egg Rolling and Hunt Pastimes
CARLSBAD, Calif. (April 9, 2020) –It’s springtime and egg hunts around the world have been canceled due to COVID-19 – even the traditional egg rolling event at the White House – but that didn’t stop the children who live in Miniland U.S.A. at LEGOLAND® California Resort in San Diego! The family theme park built for kids kept the time-honored springtime traditions alive by creating different LEGO® scenes on the White House lawn in its own LEGO version of Washington, D.C.

The spring tradition of rolling eggs on the south lawn of the White House was created by President Rutherford B. Hayes and the First Lady in 1878.  Inspired by the national pastime, the Park’s Master Model Builders had a little fun of their own using LEGO® models to create fun, silly and entertaining scenes on the infamous lawn. Scenes include Minilanders collecting eggs from the Secret Service, chicks defending their giant colorful egg, and a bunny rolling an egg that breaks open as children rejoice.  The scenes can be found online at LEGOLAND California Resort’s #LLCBuildingChallenge site where kids are challenged to build, design and create their own springtime scenes.

The #LLCBuildingChallenge site is filled with instructional videos and activities that promote learning, creating and play.  All activities on the site are free and available for everyone to enjoy.  For more information: https://www.legoland.com/llcbuildingchallenge/.

LEGOLAND Building Challenge Offers Kids and Families a Place to Learn, Create and Play!

CARLSBAD, Calif. (April 3, 2020) – As families search for fun, educational activities for their kids to do during their time at home due to the Coronavirus, LEGOLAND® California Resort has created an online site that is filled with instructional videos and activities that promote learning, creating and play. Through the Resort’s website, kids and families can access the new fun-filled site called “LEGOLAND Building Challenge”: https://www.legoland.com/llcbuildingchallenge/.

Every Wednesday, the Park that is built for kids will announce a new theme and release a new instructional “how to build” video hosted by a Master Model Builder. On Fridays, LEGOLAND will highlight builds posted by followers on the Resort’s social media sites and ask families for ideas on what the Resort’s Master Model Builders should construct next. The first instructional video on the site featured Master Model Builder PJ Catalano building a birthday cupcake in honor of the Park’s 21st birthday. “So many children are missing out on birthday parties and celebrating their birthday at the Park, so we thought a birthday theme seemed fitting as our inaugural build,” said LEGOLAND California Resort’s General Manager Kurt Stocks. In addition to the builds, the site will feature other activities including coloring pages, trivia, word games and more.

All activities on the LEGOLAND Building Challenge site are free and available for everyone to enjoy. Need some LEGO® to build new creations? Families looking for new LEGO® sets for their kids to build during this time can go online and purchase sets that aren’t usually for sale in the Park’s Big Shop, plus receive free shipping!
