Official Phoenix Comicon Statement re: UltraSabers

Thursday night, Phoenix Comicon, in conjunction with Phoenix Convention Center staff and the Phoenix Police Department issued policy changes for Phoenix Comicon, including a prop weapon ban, security line bag checks, and new protocols for vendor sales of weapons and prop weapons on-site. 

Lee Palmer, Director of Operations, and his team informed all vendors of the new procedures, which include the mandate that all weapons be securely wrapped by the vendors prior to sale. The team also held a mandatory meeting for all applicable vendors on site on Friday morning to assist with the transition. UltraSabers did not send a representative to this mandatory meeting.

On Friday, UltraSabers refused to comply with procedures, in violation of their contract. Despite the new protocols for weapon sales inside Phoenix Comicon, UltraSabers continued selling unwrapped weapons throughout the day on Friday after multiple requests from Convention Center staff, Phoenix Police Department, and Phoenix Comicon Staff. 

On Friday night, Phoenix Comicon staff approached UltraSabers regarding their refusal to comply. UltraSabers representatives became combative with Phoenix Comicon staff and with Phoenix Police Department officers. Subsequently, they were asked to remove their exhibits and exit the building. UltraSabers was issued a full refund of the cost of their exhibit space and a check was issued to them onsite before they left. 

This morning, representatives of UltraSabers managed to secure badges to enter the premises and distribute propaganda flyers claiming compliance with our procedures and accusing Phoenix Comicon of refusing to grant a refund. At this time, no decision has been made regarding UltraSabers's eventual return to Phoenix Comicon or other Square Egg Entertainment events.

​Ghost Town Alive! Returns, along with New Live Entertainment, Music, and More this Summer


Buena Park, Calif (May, 2017) Starting May 27th through September 4th, Ghost Town Alive! returns to Knott’s Berry Farm for another action-packed summer complete with bandits, cowboys, robberies, judges, a good ol’ western hoedown, and much more! Guests can visit the beloved town of Calico and experience an authentic western adventure by becoming a star in this summer’s story of the Wild West, where the power to unlock adventures is in the hands of every guest.
 
This summer, the story continues a year after the notorious Mayfield Gang escaped the custody of Sheriff Wheeler. Word around town is the Mayfield’s have been spotted back in Calico and the townsfolk are in need of some help in capturing the bandits and keeping the town safe. Ghost Town Alive! will offer guests a firsthand experience to play an important part in this unfolding story of the wild west, with specific tasks and activities and an essential role as an honorary citizen of Calico. 
“Ghost Town Alive! has taken Knott’s summer entertainment and the idea of ‘playing in a theme park’ to a whole new level. Guests of all ages will have the opportunity to not just interact with the citizens of Calico, but will have the ability to influence how the story takes shape,” said Jon Storbeck, General Manager of Knott’s Berry Farm. “Our Entertainment team has been working all year in developing new storylines, adding new characters and activities that make up the lively town of Calico”.
 
Along with the return of Ghost Town Alive! The park will also debut Snoopy’s Magnificent Magical Revue, a jaw-dropping magic show starring the World’s Most Famous Beagle, Snoopy and showcasing the mystifying and amazing magic of Magician Extraordinaire Greg Wilson!  The whole PEANUTS GANG will amaze and confound with their magical exploits and lavish musical production numbers in this family friendly show!  And who knows, guests might find themselves part of the act!  Snoopy’s Magnificent Magical Revue will mesmerize on select dates, staring June 10 – August 20in the Charles M. Schulz Theatre. (Dark Wednesdays)
 
The circus returns to town! The renowned “Traveling Circus” returns for another season of exhilarating performances. Set on the Calico Mine stage in Ghost Town, come witness a spectacle; see awe-inspiring stunts, and death defying acrobatics in “Circus of Wonders.” The astonishing 30 minute spectacular will be action packed with all-time favorite circus attractions such as the Trapeze, Tightrope, Aerial Acrobatics, Trampoline, and of course, clowns, incorporating lighting and pyrotechnics, making this nighttime show a totally unique event! Select dates, June 10 – August 20. 

The live entertainment continues with the explosive Wild West Stunt Show and the high kickin’ Calico Saloon Show, all in Ghost Town. At the Wagon Camp Stage, get krazy when Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies mount their toe tappin’, knee-slappin’, gut-bustin’ country comedy show that will have audiences clamoring for more!  In the evening a group of krazy talented performers will have guests kicking up their heels with vine dancing, a down home jug band and dueling fiddlers and banjos! 
 
Knott’s also invites guests to celebrate Memorial Day weekend, Fourth of July weekend and Labor Day weekend at the park for a special nighttime firework display.  The Buena Park skyline will glow with a brilliant fireworks show on May 28th, July 1-2 & 4, and September 3rd, exclusively at Knott’s Berry Farm.

Over the three-day Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the Emporium will feature album signings by artists and award-winning composers. Limited quantities of a wide assortment of music products will be available, including new releases from Marvel, Moana, Beauty and the Beast, and Disneyland attraction picture discs, plus lithographs, Crosely turntables, and posters.
 
Available for the first time will be Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection Robin Hood two-disc set. The Robin Hood Collection features the songs and score from the film on Disc 1, plus previously unreleased demos, and bonus tracks performed by Louis Prima on Disc 2. Also included are extensive liner notes by Disney historian and writer Paula Sigman-Lowery. The CD cover and 20-page booklet feature newly created artwork inspired by Robin Hood from Lorelay Bove, a visual development artist at Walt Disney Animation Studios (Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, Wreck-It Ralph). SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA’S MOST INTERACTIVE WATER PARK SPLASHES OUT TO SUMMER AT LEGOLAND® CALIFORNIA RESORT

CARLSBAD, Calif. (May 23, 2017) – More than 50 children and their families from the Los Angeles and San Diego chapters of Ronald McDonald House Charities® were treated to an exclusive day at LEGOLAND® Water Park as LEGOLAND® California Resort splashes out to summer! LEGOLAND Water Park is bigger, wetter and better this summer with the addition of the newest California beach-themed area, Surfers’ Cove, opening June 30, 2017.


The children had exclusive access to LEGOLAND Water Park following a check presentation as LEGOLAND California Resort donated $80,000 to help the chapters continue their programs that strengthen families during difficult times.


“We are grateful for our outstanding partners at San Diego County McDonald’s and LEGOLAND California Resort for helping us provide lodging, programs and support services to families while their critically ill or injured child is being treated at a San Diego-area hospital,” said Chuck Day, president and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. “Through their support, and that of the community, we’re able to keep families close to one another – regardless of their situation or ability to pay.”

In Surfers’ Cove, kids will be able to race their friends at Riptide Racers timed water slides, enjoy an epic splash-ground at Wipeout Lagoon and enlighten their taste buds with the new Beach Street Tacos! Riptide Racers is a competitive water raceway designed for children to jump on a mat and race down one of six slides with family and friends for the fastest time! Each slide stands 17 feet high and is more than 100 feet in length. Wipeout Lagoon is our version of a “spray ground” with multiple water jets splashing on and off and plenty of new LEGO® models like a surfing dog to create a fun place to cool off this summer.

TIKI, BURLESQUE, AND HORROR MEET THIS SUMMER IN DOWNTOWN LA

LOS ANGELES, CA, MAY 23, 2017 – Drunken Devil, an entertainment company with an emphasis on horror-infused nightlife events, is producing a one-night- only party, inspired by the colorful and kitschy mid-century tiki culture: Curse of the Jungle Drums.

For the past year, the company has been producing one-of-a-kind, horror-forward parties, first with the disco inferno-themed L’Enfer: An Infernal Discotheque, followed by the sold-out Halloween event, The Witches’ Ball, and, most recently, the wildly popular macabre Mardi Gras party, Bloody Gras. Now, the company continues its streak with an all-new summer soirée, integrating elements of immersive theatre, live music, burlesque, magic, disco, and free-flowing booze at a secret location in Downtown LA.

In Curse of the Jungle Drums, guests will be transported to Pele’s Hideaway, an imagined, lavish tiki bar in Hollywood, circa 1954. Back from an exotic expedition, a famous explorer has brought a mysterious idol to the bar’s owner as a gift; the idol is cursed, however, and causes the club-goers to go mad. Guests will arrive moments after the curse has taken effect, and will be able to interact with some of the newly undead patrons, piecing together a horror-fueled narrative throughout the evening.

As the story unfolds, a raucous party will roar around them. Guests can partake in an open bar, presented by Lemon Hart & Son Rum, featuring a host of tiki cocktails as well as other spirits, beer, and wine; enjoy complimentary tarot card readings; be mystified by strolling magicians, Drunken Devil alum Jimmy H and sleight-of-hand artist Henry Springer, or snap a photo in an interactive photo booth.

For the proper ambiance, The Jennifer Keith Quintet (regular performers at Clifton’s and The Queen Mary) will take the stage, performing a series of 1950’s nightclub standards. In between sets, guests can enjoy exotica-inspired burlesque acts, featuring resident performer Scarlette Fox, Drunken Devil alum Jessabelle Thunder (Tease, If You Please), and Olivia Bellafontaine (House of Red Velvet, Alligator Wine).

At 11:00pm, as is tradition at a Drunken Devil event, the lights of the stage will be replaced by the glitter of a mirror ball, as DJ Aiden Ramos (STITCH) returns to spin a set of all-vinyl disco and house, closing the night with a raucous dance party.

Curse of the Jungle Drums will take place on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at a secret location in DTLA. Location will be revealed to ticket-holders the day before the event. Doors open at 8:00 PM, and the event concludes at 1:00 AM. Previous Drunken Devil events have sold out and tickets, which are $75.00 and all-inclusive, will go quickly. Prices will increase starting July 1. Drunken Devil also is offering memberships, which include a party ticket as well as an exclusive, members’ only cocktail hour, plus additional special events throughout the year. LOS ANGELES (May 22, 2017) – Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con Presents A Conversation With…has set Javier Grillo-Marxuach – the Emmy-winning creator of The Middleman, and writer-producer of The 100, Charmed, Medium and the legendary ABC series Lost – for its next live streaming showcase, set for Wednesday May 24 beginning at7:30pm PDT.  Co-hosted by L.A. Comic Con CEO Keith Tralins and Meltdown’s Adam Parker, the monthly program originates live from Meltdown Comics, Hollywood’s premiere destination for everything pop culture.
 
A casual master class on creating best-of-breed pop culture entertainment, A Conversation With… can be accessed via Meltdown’s website located at www.meltcomics.com.  For those who happen to be in the So California area, the monthly event is also open to the public free of charge.
 
Javier Grillo-Marxuach is a prolific writer of television, movies, comic books, essays, and interactive media best known as one of the Emmy Award-winning producers of Lost, and as creator of the the comic book and ABC Family television series The Middleman. Having just wrapped work as consulting producer on season 2 of the hit MTV series The Shannara Chronicles, Javi is currently developing projects for both broadcast and cable, as well as feature film.  Javier is also co-host and co-creator (with fellow writer/producer/Puerto Rican, Jose Molina) of the “Children of Tendu” podcast, an educational series which aims to teach newcomers how to navigate the entertainment industry with decency and integrity. As part of his ongoing efforts to support and encourage emerging writers, Javi is not only an avid participant of the WGA's Mentor program, but also worked to institute the Grillo-Marxuach Family Scholarship, which provides financial aid and mentorship to students attending the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts Masters Degree in Screenwriting with a focus on the Latino experience.  Additionally, Javi's book of essays "Shoot This One" - a dishy, frequently far-too-revealing, but mostly helpful and informative, memoir of his 20 years in the television industry - is currently available in paperback and Kindle.

(May 19, 2017) – For the first time ever, the psychological horror film, The Shining, will bring unspeakable terror to “Halloween Horror Nights” in terrifying new mazes opening at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort, beginning this September.

The twisted minds behind the nation’s best, most intense Halloween events will bring every gruesome moment and paranormal haunting that fans have seen in the film to life in original, disturbingly authentic mazes.

“The Shining” maze at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights will provide guests with a unique opportunity to relive some of the film’s most iconic, and sinister, moments.  While venturing through the eerie Overlook Hotel, guests will be thrust into the hotel’s tragic history of murder and madness, bearing witness to caretaker Jack Torrance’s spiraling descent into insanity. Nightmarish visions will come to life in this macabre maze, overwhelming guests with the “shine” of the murderous, ghostly entities that lurk around every turn – all while trying to escape the wrath of Jack Torrance as he violently succumbs to the hotel’s paranormal forces.


The Shining
 has been regarded as “a masterpiece of modern horror” by critics and fans alike. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, the film’s enormous influence on pop culture has been captured throughout a multitude of films, television shows, music and more since its disturbing debut in 1980.

Universal Studios’ “Halloween Horror Nights” is the ultimate Halloween event. For more than 20 years, guests from around the world have visited Halloween Horror Nights in Hollywood and Orlando to become victims inside their own horror film. ​Universal City, CA, May 18, 2017 – Beginning June 23, guests are invited to see “The Wizarding World of Harry PotterTM” in a whole new light when Universal Studios Hollywoodintroduces its all-new “The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts TM Castle,” featuring a dazzling light projection experience against the backdrop of Hogwarts™ School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

          As night falls on Hogsmeade village, “The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle” will shine brightly with an awe-inspiring spectacle that showcases the four houses of Hogwarts: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin that culminates with awesome beams of lights that fan into the night sky.

          The colorful state-of-the-art light display and special effects projection, designed to dance across the stunning Hogwarts castle, will be accompanied by a special musical arrangement created by Academy Award-winning composer John Williams based on his original scores composed for the film series. The musical arrangement that will emanate in a surround sound environment was conducted by prolific arranger William Ross and recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra in London.

          This new summertime feature will take place multiple times a night during its run.  Live rehearsals with annual pass previews and very limited guest access will begin in June in preparation for the June 23 grand opening.

            Inspired by J.K. Rowling’s compelling stories and characters that were brought to life in the Warner Bros. films, “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” at Universal Studios Hollywood is a masterful recreation, faithful to the visual landscape of the fiction and films, including as its iconic focal point, Hogwarts castle.

          From its snow-capped roofs and cobblestone streets to the historic British sensibilities that characterize the whimsical look and feel of the land, “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” transports guests of all ages to the very places they watched on the silver screen.
