The party starts at 8:30 p.m. and will culminate with a midnight Margarita toast along with a live steel drum performance, a telecast of Jimmy Buffett’s New Year’s Eve concert, lots of dancing and an array of palate-pleasing dining options. Fun party favors, including straw hats, colorful leis and NYE themed noise makers, will add to the festivities as guests bid a fond farewell to 2017 and welcome 2018.

The festive evening will begin the moment guests enter Margaritaville where they will be greeted with a specialty “Who’s to Blame” Margarita and tray passed hors d'oeuvres, including Ahi Poke Nachos, Chicken Skewers and Chimichurri Carne Asada.  A full Caribbean themed dinner buffet featuring such favorites as Cheeseburger in Paradise sliders, Crab Cake Sliders, Sweet Chili Salmon and Guava Glazed Barbeque Chicken will complement the selection of mouth-watering desserts, including Banana Bread Pudding, Key Lime Pie and Warm Flourless Brownies.

For over 20 years, Universal CityWalk has boosted the city’s rhythm through a foundation built on providing memorable entertainment experiences.  With a series of dramatic enhancements currently underway from new restaurants, shopping experiences and visually-aesthetic design features to its multi-million dollar Universal Cinema renovation, the spotlight shines brightly on CityWalk as it continues to invest in an ambitious revitalization and remain best in class.

This significant undertaking coincides with Universal Studios Hollywood’s recent epic transformation in which 75 percent of the world-class theme park was completely reimagined.

Introduced in 1993, CityWalk was constructed in collaboration with visionary architect Jon Jerde as the prototypical one-stop leisure destination that redefined the mall of yesteryear as a vibrant multi-sensory outdoor complex. With grand neon signs and larger-than-life decorative sculptures complimenting the diverse offerings, this whimsical street was reflective of L.A.’s eclectic landscape and distinguishing characteristics.

FAMILY NEW YEAR'S EVE at L.A. Zoo Lights celebrates the coming of 2018 with an evening of fun on Sunday, December 31, 6 to 10 pm. The special all-ages party features "skip-the-line" express entry to L.A. Zoo Lights, dinner buffet, dessert, a ride on the Conservation Carousel, a festive photo booth courtesy of PRIMs Photo Booth, a DJ dance party, soft drinks and a cash bar. At 9 pm, party-goers can enjoy a glass of complimentary bubbly -- champagne for adults, sparkling apple cider for kids – along with a live broadcast of New York's Times Square ball drop, after which guests are welcome to experience L.A. Zoo Lights until closing. FAMILY NEW YEAR'S EVE tickets, which are limited and sell out quickly, are $69 for adults and $45 for children. Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association members save $5.

FAMILY NEW YEAR'S EVE takes place in addition to regular admission and hours as L.A. Zoo Lights captivates guests with a self-guided 60- to 90-minute walking tour through select areas of the Zoo. While most animal residents are asleep, visitors can enjoy the only opportunity in Los Angeles to see a herd of real reindeer in their "Reindeer Village" habitat. Other live animals on view are a multitude of amphibians, invertebrates and reptiles in the LAIR, which also boasts black-lit "insects" scurrying above the rock walls. An inventive collection of animals depicted in lights range from frogs, meerkats, flamingos and monkeys to a glowing savanna with a "stained glass" condor, giraffe, elephant, polar bear, and rhino.

Awarded USA Today's "10 Best Zoo Lights" honors in 2015 and 2016 – and nominated again for 2017 – Los Angeles' holiday "must" destination under the stars sets the Zoo aglow with LED lights by the thousands, a disco ball forest, glittering twinkle tunnel, stunning 3-D animated projections and much more. A burst of breathtaking new features raises the bar for awe-inspiring nighttime holiday delight, among them a dynamic, musical holiday tree experience, a reimagined water show, a glittering “North Pole” setting for Santa photos, glowing “Northern Lights” featuring animal constellations that come to life, and an all-new “Wild Wonderland” finale spotlighting endangered and vulnerable species.

Sponsors of L.A. Zoo Lights include Service Systems Associates, 99 Cents Only Stores, SoCal Honda Dealers, Welk Resorts, Cirque du Soleil’s LUZIA and ScholarShare. Media Sponsor is KCRW. Denny’s also joins as a first time sponsor.

The landmark Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens, drawing nearly 1.8 million visitors each year, is home to a diverse collection of 1,100 animals representing 250 different species, many of which are rare or endangered, as well as a botanical collection comprising over 800 different plant species with approximately 7,000 individual plants. Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), whose members meet rigorous professional standards for animal welfare, the Zoo has achieved renown as an international leader in the preservation of endangered species and a conservation center for the care and study of wildlife. Its responsibility toward wildlife conservation not only encompasses safeguarding the animals in its care but also actively participating in the preservation of some of the world’s most critically endangered species and their habitats. Its many conservation successes include having led the charge in saving California condors from extinction and restoring populations of these critically endangered animals to their native habitats. The Zoo's lush grounds on 113 acres feature Rainforest of the Americas, an extraordinary collection of endangered and exotic mammals, reptiles, fish and amphibians living in spaces that exemplify their natural habitat in the rainforest biosphere; Chimpanzees of Mahale Mountains, home to one of the largest troops of chimpanzees in the United States; Red Ape Rain Forest, where visitors can walk among orangutans; the LAIR (Living Amphibians, Invertebrates, and Reptiles); Elephants of Asia; Campo Gorilla Reserve; and one of the largest flocks of flamingos in any zoo in the world. Among other highlights are an extraordinary, hands-on Hippo Encounter and face-to-face Giraffe Feedings; the Winnick Family Children’s Zoo and Muriel's Ranch animal contact area; the Tom Mankiewicz Conservation Carousel; a variety of daily opportunities to learn more about animals, including close-up visits, special feedings and intriguing talks; and much more. The private, non-profit Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA), which has supported the Zoo in partnership with the City of Los Angeles for more than five decades and provides funding for and operates seven essential Zoo departments, has 60,000 member households representing more than 240,000 adults and children. As evidence of the Zoo's popularity, GLAZA attracts one of the largest membership bases of any cultural organization in Los Angeles.

Gantom Torch Technology Revolutionizes the Interactive Experience at Knott’s Scary Farm’s Trick or Treat: Lights Out Maze

10/24/2017

Picture

Valencia, California, October 24, 2017- The third new haunt at Knott’s Scary Farm this year is Trick-or-Treat: Lights Out. Armed with only a seemingly faulty flashlight, a stout heart, and a love of horror, unsuspecting trick-or-treaters enter the haunted home of the Green Witch and plunge into terrors amid total darkness.

This year’s Trick or Treat maze features new, state-of-the-art effects and high-impact scares. A flashlight may seem like small comfort in such a setting, but wait—this isn’t just any flashlight. This is a Torch Technology powered flashlight- a specially made, programmable, IR (infrared)-controlled flashlight; the flashlights both receive and transmit IR, allowing each guest’s experience in the maze to change based on where they point the beam of light.

The combination of a top-tier maze, total darkness, and the flashlight are what make Trick or Treat the expedition into horror that it is. The haunt offers a mélange of fear, anxiety, shock, horror, and a rising sense of urgency to find one’s way out.

Knott’s Scary Farm’s Trick or Treat maze debuted in 2012 and is the oldest maze at Knott’s Scary Farm. Ken Parks, Vice President of Entertainment, and Jon Cooke, Entertainment Designer at Knott’s, sat down earlier this year to consider whether to discontinue the maze. “It’s a fan favorite,” said Jon, “and we didn’t want to give it up. So we started looking at what we could do to change it up. That’s when we came across Gantom’s Torch Technology.” The maze opened this season as ‘Trick or Treat: Lights Out.’

The Guest Experience
“It puts the guests into a spot where they’re a character in the attraction,” Cooke Commented. We’re just seeing the beginning of being able to use technology to create these larger, immersive environments,” said Parks. “We’ll be leaning into technology but not losing what made us famous, which is a simple, tactical scare.”

Philip Hernandez, Director of Marketing at Gantom Lighting & Controls, talked about his experience working on Trick or Treat: Lights Out: "Working on this project with the creative team at Knott's has been a dream come true for me, coming from the themed entertainment and Halloween space. Contributing to an experience like this is something I've dreamt about since I was running my home haunt in high school. At Gantom our passion is creating compact technology for creative professionals to use in magical experiences. This is what we live for!"

Behind Torch Technology

Gan explained how the Torch Technology powered flashlight works. “What we’re doing is taking decades-old IR technology that’s in everybody’s remote control and we’re incorporating it into various forms of interaction. What you see at Knott’s is only one iteration of that, one manifestation of a guest walking through a scene and being able to trigger effects. Torch technology is a communication technology among multiple points, multiple people, and people and scenery.

“The Torch isn’t limited to any form factor. We happened to make the flashlight form factor because it was the best fit, thematically, for a haunted house setting. We can incorporate it into virtually anything.”

About Gantom Lighting & Controls

Gantom, formerly Darklight, was founded in the Spring of 2010 as a manufacturer of special-effects lighting equipment catering to the themed attraction industry. The company specializes in illumination of low-light and space-constrained environments where traditional theatrical luminaries aren’t suitable. Its award-winning products are the “secret weapons” of many lighting designers and industry experts and have been installed around the world in a wide range of applications including theme parks, museums, bars and clubs, and haunted venues attractions.

LONG BEACH, Calif., (Oct. 2, 2017) – The Queen Mary, dubbed one of the top 10 most haunted places on Earth by Time Magazine, is pleased to unveil the newly-intensified and re-inspired Ghost and Legends, opening to the public on Friday, October 13. Offered year-round, thrill seekers and scare enthusiasts are invited to board the haunted RMS Queen Mary to test their fears in the world’s largest interactive and fully immersive haunted attraction. Experience the spirit legends of the Queen Mary first-hand with all-new special effects, cutting-edge technology and, of course, the chance to encounter paranormal activity for a one-of-a-kind, spine-chilling, fun time.

“The new Ghosts and Legends offers guests an entirely different level of the traditional haunted experience. We crafted terrifying original stories and characters based the ship's well-known paranormal tales and hot-spots onboard the Queen Mary to create a truly thrilling, immersive, and unique encounter,” said Brian Luallen, Director of Entertainment Events, The Queen Mary.

The reimagined Ghost and Legends elevates scares with innovative interactive technology and special effects including a tesla coil firing 3.4 million volt bolts of lightning at a frightfully intimate distance, massive water effects, fog projections with state of the art CGI specters, and a hand-held ghost tracking  tablet given to select attendees for the tour. To further enhance the frights, tour groups will also be given a flashlight to guide their way through the dimly lit attraction. Thrill-seekers beware - the flashlights will be controlled by the twisted minds of the Ghost and Legends producers!

Ghost and Legends haunted experience aboard the Queen Mary will open on Friday, October 13 at 11 a.m. The year-round attraction will be open daily and runs every 30 minutes starting at 11 a.m., accommodating up to 30 guests per experience.
