Marengo Ave., Altadena, California, from September 29 – November 11, 2017.  This year, Wicked Lit consisted of three plays, The Damned Thing, Thoth’s Labyrinth, and The Open Door, and the wrap-around story was Liliom.

If you've followed along with us for any time, at all, you know there is no season we enjoy more than Halloween!  On September 15, the season will be officially engaged, as Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) 2017 begins at Universal Studios Hollywood.  While we've been peeking through cracks of fences for months, at all the theme parks we visit, we were able to get much more than a glimpse, on August 22, when we went behind the scenes with John Murdy, HHN Creative Director.  While it's been difficult to not share pictures or videos until now, we're all that much more excited to share this first look at two mazes from this year's killer line-up.

First up on our tour, we journeyed to the lower lot, where we met up with Murdy and the rest of the visiting media, in the Jurassic Park queue.  At the time of the tour, this house had not been revealed.  With an extra bit of excitement in the air, we were asked if we had any ideas as to which property would be featured at that site.  Unhesitatingly, Johanna Atilano, of Theme Park Adventure, responded, "Insidious?"  This was met with a nod of approval and thus began our introduction to the story of this "living trailer" for Insidious: The Last Key.  Take a look here at this sneak-peek gallery of the house and listen to John Murdy discussing this chapter in the franchise:
From the forward-look into the upcoming Insidious film, we took a trip back in time, to a classic Kubrick piece.  Adjacent to Revenge of the Mummy℠ – The Ride, the HHN team is working on bringing the world of The Shining to physical form, this Halloween season.  With attention to detail that's second to none, The Shining is still an ambitious intellectual property to take on and is one that promises to be a huge fan favorite.

There's so much about HHN's plans for The Shining that excites us, but we won't spoil it here.  That said, fans know the consistent commitment to high quality that HHN displays each year and can imagine how the film comes to life.  To give an assist in the visualization exercise, we will let John Murdy provide some context and give you a quick look at some pieces of the house.
Hopefully  you enjoyed this tiny taste of what HHN has planned for this season.  With Friday night, September 15, 2017, being opening night, none of us will have to wait long for a full serving of, what promises to be, an iconic year at Universal Studios Halloween Horror  Nights.  Follow along with us, this Haunt season, as we take on HHN and many more.  We had over 50 Halloween stops in 2016 and we don't plan to slow down in 2017. Big news has broken!  The Ghost Train returns for the 2017 Halloween season and we are super excited that The Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum (LALSRM) has chosen to make this announcement via Theme Park Adventure and Parks and Cons.

For those unfamiliar, Ghost Train is a whimsical journey into the world of a dreaming child on Halloween eve.  With the denizens of Halloween ready to break free from imagination and lore, riders of the Ghost Train are transported to a world where ghouls, goblins, witches, and other things that go bump in the night frolic and play in full view of those brave enough to ride the rails of a child's Halloween dream.‪  It's a surreal ride and one that young and old never forget.‬  Take a look and listen to our 2015 Ghost Train experience, http://www.parksandcons.com/ghost-train.html! 

‪In 2016, Southern California fans were disappointed that the attraction would be dark.  As with any Halloween attraction that goes dark for a year, there is a concern that it may never return.  Many are unaware of the immense amount of time that goes into even the smallest temporary attraction and, with something the size of Ghost Train, it would have been understandable if it went dark forever.

After a very long run of entertaining families, there was a very noticeable absence last year.  Although Ghost Train is a joy for all ages, it also serves as one of the only high quality nighttime Halloween attractions that is family-friendly.  With theme parks concentrating on adult entertainment, in the evening, and children's activities, in the day, there are few options, besides Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland, that are meant for families to enjoy together.  Thankfully, Ghost Train's return will re-install a family classic, this fall.‬

‪As we write, Gary Baker (Ghost Train Founder and Executive Producer of Midsummer Scream), is leading a team of dedicated individuals in re-imaging the train for this 2017 season.  We will be following along with this story, as we count down to its opening night, Friday, October 13, 2017.‬
